The University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) sits on 123 hectares (300 acres) of land, forming the west side of the Highland Creek neighbourhood in Scarborough. For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land. UTSC has 14 academic departments, and approximately 13,500 undergraduate and 400 graduate students. The Department of Biological Sciences at UTSC is home to the BUGS lab ('Biodiversity of Urban Green Spaces') insect collection, which curates mainly Hymenopteran species from Ontario and Eastern Canada.
