N. Laverov Federal Center for Integrated Arctic Research of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FECIAR UrB RAS) is the state-owned research institution conducting the comprehensive basic, exploratory and applied research to facilitate and ensure the development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation. FECIAR UrB RAS was formed in 2015 by consolidation of: Arkhangelsk Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the RAS (UB RAS); Institute of Environmental Problems of the North of the UB RAS; Institute of Physiology of Natural Adaptations of the UB RAS; Arkhangelsk Institute of Agricultural Research of the RAS; Naryan-Mar Agricultural Experimental Station of the RAS. In 2016 the Center was named after Nikolai Laverov, the outstanding academician of the RAS. UrB RAS ̕ mission is to promote the competitive scientific and technological foundations for balanced socio-economic development, improving the quality of life in the region, preserving the natural environment, biological and genetic diversity in the Arctic.Areas of research competence: biology, ecology, chemistry, geology, geophysics, agriculture and aquaculture, economics, sociology, political and international studies, ethnography and culture. The infrastructure includes «Russian Museum of Biodiversity Centers», Botanical garden, Arkhangelsk Scientific Herbarium (AR), etc.
