The "Observatoire Hommes-Milieux international Téssékéré" is one of the 13 human-environments observatories (OHM in french) of the DRIIHM LabEx (Device for Interdisciplinary Research on human-environments Interactions - Laboratory for Excellence project - ANR11-LABX-0010). This French programme “Investissements d'Avenir" is managed by the French Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR).
Located in the Ferlo region of northern Senegal, the territory studied by OHMi Téssékéré is characteristic of the African Sahel. This vast bioclimatic transition zone, between the Saharan domain in the north and the Sudanian savannahs in the south, is characteristic of the ecological and human crises resulting from the drought episodes that have affected Africa for several decades. The OHMi Téssékéré was created jointly by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS, France) and the Université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD, Senegal) in 2009.
