The National Museum of Namibia, Windhoek (NMNW) has two subdivisions: the Natural Sciences and the Social Sciences (Archaeology, Anthropology, History). The Natural Sciences collections are preserved animal specimens, mostly from Namibia and surrounding countries. The museum maintains and actively adds to its mammal, bird, amphibian, reptile, fish, insect, arachnid, myriapod, and marine/freshwater invertebrate collections, which are the official national reference collections for most Namibian fauna.
