The Agencia de Regulación y Control Fito y Zoosanitaria's primary function is to regulate and control animal health and welfare, plant health, and food safety in primary production, aiming to maintain and enhance the phytosanitary and zoosanitary status of the agricultural sector. In this context, the Laboratory Coordination Unit in Tumbaco houses the Entomology and Malacology Laboratory, where taxonomic analyses and diagnoses of insects and other economically essential arthropods are conducted. These studies support Phytosanitary Surveillance, enabling pest detection, plant quarantine, pest prospecting, access to international markets, and other processes. Additionally, this laboratory hosts the National Reference Museum of Economic Entomology, which supports these scientific activities. Essential services include the identification of pest insects, predators, parasitoids, and other arthropods in crops, entomological analysis of plant material, and the taxonomic identification of agriculturally significant mollusks.
