The Trinity College Dublin (TCD) Geology Museum houses teaching and research collections, the first of which were acquired in 1777. The collections comprise over 100,000 specimens with a focus on Ireland, but there are specimens collected worldwide. The main paleontological holdings include Irish Silurian and Carboniferous invertebrates, Devonian plant fossils, Mesozoic ostracods, Upper Palaeozoic miospores and casts of Mesozoic marine reptiles. The Museum holds nearly 200 type specimens.
