The Piku Biodiversity Network works towards a vision of "Informed and empowered communities working together to sustain a healthy Papua New Guinea environment which supports local culture and livelihoods and contributes positively to biodiversity conservation." We work towards this using strategies in knowledge generation, environmental education and supporting community-led conservation initiatives. It is through our programs and projects for knowledge generation that we work with documenting the species found within our project area which is predominately the Gulf of Papua and it's major river systems. Through the membership and projects of the Piku Biodiversity Network, we work with a variety of species and their scientific study, through GBIF we hope to document and enable the publishing of species occurrence data and other biodiversity information that may contribute to the protection and conservation of species we work with.
