The Observatoire de Recherche Montpellierrain de l'Environnement (OREME) is an Observatoire des Sciences de l'Univers (OSU) under the auspices of CNRS, the University of Montpellier, INRAE and IRD.
The OSU OREME focuses on its ability to mobilize heavy, long-term observation resources and recognized scientific and technical skills on a wide range of aspects of the physical, chemical and biological environment. OREME forges links between scientific communities - ecology, biodiversity and the sciences of the universe - so that they can work together on the signals obtained by very different but complementary long-term observation services.
One of the main challenges lies in its ability to collect, integrate and share the heterogeneous data associated with these disciplines, and to highlight correlations that could not be identified beforehand. The key to this process is the discovery of systematic signals that can be used to assess the impact of global and/or anthropogenic change, and to understand the mechanisms (hazard, vulnerability) involved in its environmental effects.
