The Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra (JBUC), founded in 1772, is a Cultural Extension and Training Support Unit of this higher education institution and its missions are research, conservation of biodiversity, education and dissemination of science, with a special focus on raising awareness of the knowledge and importance of plant diversity, climate change and the sustainable use of natural resources. It holds one of the oldest collections of living plants in Portugal, and is the custodian of historical datasets with information on fruiting phenology of a multitude of angiosperm species, mainly from continental Portugal.
