The J.C Deeming Insect Museum is named after one of its curators, John Christopher Deeming and is domiciled in the Department of Crop Protection, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria - Nigeria. It was established in 1960 and as at today has over seventy thousand (70,000) specimens covering about seven thousand (7,000) identified species in twenty-nine (29) Orders and six hundred and fifty (650) Families.
The highest collection is in Order Coleoptera and Diptera with a reasonable number of storage insect pests.
Several specimens held in the museum are of agricultural importance, however, there are also collections for medical, veterinary and life science applications as well as some Lepidopteran's of aesthetic value. We offer identification services to farmers, students and researchers for any insects of concern to agriculture or human/animal health.
