In 1914 Monsignor Ulrich A. Hauber established the St. Ambrose University herbarium, which currently holds approximately 4500 specimens. Flowering plants comprise about 90% of the collection and just over 3200 of the specimens were collected in Iowa. About 50% of the herbarium documents the flora of the Iowa-Illinois Quad Cities region.
