Center for Dynamic Research of High Latitude Marine Ecosystems (IDEAL) is led by the Austral University of Chile (UACh), and its partner institution is the University of Concepcion (UdeC). Our main national scientific collaborators are the Ecosystem Research Center of Patagonia (CIEP) in Coyhaique and the University of Magallanes (UMAG) in Punta Arenas. At the international level, the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven, Germany, is our partner institution. We are a multidisciplinary center that was born to respond to the challenges of global change in the southern seas. For this, we have different lines of research, and one of the main lines of research aims to: generate more knowledge about the biodiversity present in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic regions, and how climate change may be affecting the pattern of distribution and abundance of species; and evaluate changes in the distribution of endemic species and the possible access and establishment of invasive species.
