The Living Forest Project, developed by the National Forest Financing Fund (Fonafifo), consists of a financial recognition scheme for owners of farms with forests that have particular importance in the protection of flora and fauna. It seeks to raise awareness among the owner about the importance of their forest, in addition to providing support and motivation for the protection actions carried out. The main feature of the project is that there is support from private companies in the financial recognition that the owner receives. The financial recognition is implemented through Fonafifo's Payment for Environmental Services program.
The phototrapping technique is used to know what species of fauna are found on the properties that receive payment for environmental services.
