We work to help protect Australia from plant biosecurity risks like pests and diseases and are the national coordinator of the government-industry partnership for plant biosecurity in Australia. Plant Health Australia (PHA) work to minimise plant pest and disease impacts, enhance market access for the trade of produce, enhance Australia?s plant health status, safeguard the livelihood of growers and producers, support the future of Australia?s plant industries and communities, and to preserve Australia?s environmental health and amenity. The Pest and Disease Image Library (PaDIL) is a biodiversity and biosecurity information management system administrated by PHA, with an emphasis on delivering high quality diagnostic images. PaDIL contains detailed records of invertebrates, bacteria, fungi, virus and viroids and phytoplasmas that threaten field crops, pasture, forestry, horticulture, marine, human health and animals. The resources within PaDIL assist government and industry in making decisions in relation to protecting against invasive threats to Australia's economy, environment, human health and amenity. Images exhibit the key diagnostic features of each pest and disease specimen and facilitate simple image comparison of similar species to assist with specimen triaging and taxonomic identification. PaDIL is hosted and managed by PHA and jointly owned and governed by the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), PHA, Museums Victoria and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), Western Australia.
