AfarTV, in partnership with the 2 Degrees Institute, utilizes a team of citizen scientists to identify and document species sightings via HD webcams situated in the wildernesses of Africa. The community agree on the species sighted and it gets added to the database.

The purpose of this project is to combine current webcam technology and the power of crowdsourcing to monitor wildlife populations and biodiversity trends over time as the impacts of climate change and habitat loss are felt.

As of May 2022, 136 species have been identified and over 19,000 occurrences have been recorded since the project launched in December 2021.
