Public descriptionThe Azov-Black Sea Ornithological Station is a scientific organization that researches the ornithofauna in the south of Ukraine. It is an interdepartmental organization on the basis of the I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology and Bohdan Khmelnitsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University. The Azov-Black Sea Ornithological Station was established in 1985.
The main directions of the Ornithological Station’s activities are estimation of the ornithological situation; investigation of migratory routes of birds, their structure and stability; organization of the bird species monitoring; development of measures on bird conservation; wetland and reserve areas management. An important activity of the Azov-Black Sea Ornithological Station is also the coordination of activities within the programme of regional ornithological monitoring (ROM).
In frames of GBIF-related activities, the main focus of the Ornithological Station is the publishing the dataset with results of field observations and monitoring programmes.
