Public descriptionThe Voss Marine Invertebrate Collection (VMIC) is an internationally recognized, CITES-certified research museum for Atlantic tropical marine invertebrates. The collections, which have few rivals as to number, geographic and vertical ranges of Atlantic tropical species, are of exceptional value as research, teaching, reference and data resources because of their comprehensive nature and the fact that the major portion of the material has been and continues to be identified by leading specialists from around the world. The VMIC consists of ca 75,000 lots, of which about 36,000 are identified to species, and the remaining lots to order or family. Most representative phyla of the VMIC are Mollusca (55%), Arthropods mainly Crustaceans (25%), Cnidarians (8 %), Echinoderms (8%), Annelids (3%) and Porifera (1%). Data of the identified material are in the Symbiota- InvertEBase portal and managed directly within data portal.
