The Center for Research in Ecosystems of Patagonia (CIEP) is a non-profit Regional Corporation for Cooperative Development that is projected to be an important center of academic excellence. It has allowed the development of fundamental and applied research in Aysén, offering a framework reference for public, private, and academic organizations. It responds in particular, to the regional need to have an institution dedicated to research, innovation, and technology outreach, by aligning its action strategy on productive priorities and strengthening national and international collaboration networks that benefit regional development. The leading role assumed by the Center has earned it the categorization and challenge of being the "technological arm of the Regional Government of Aysén".

El Centro de Investigación en Ecosistemas de la Patagonia (CIEP) es una Corporación Regional de Desarrollo Cooperativo sin fines de lucro que se proyecta como un importante centro de excelencia académica, pues ha permitido el desarrollo de investigación fundamental y aplicada en Aysén, ofreciendo un marco de referencia para organizaciones públicas, privadas y académicas. Responde en especial a la necesidad regional de contar con una institución dedicada a la investigación, innovación y transferencia tecnológica, al alinear su estrategia de acción sobre las prioridades productivas y fortalecer redes de colaboración nacional e internacional que benefician al desarrollo regional. El protagonismo asumido por el Centro le ha valido la categorización y desafío de ser el “brazo tecnológico del Gobierno Regional de Aysén”.
