The Institute of Biology of the Altitude (INBIAL) dependent on the National University of Jujuy (UNJu) since 1983 has the mission of promoting biological research that allows explaining the influence of factors that affect the development of life at different levels of altitude and elucidate the complex interactions that are established in the different ecosystems included in this altitudinal gradient; contribute to the training of undergraduate and postgraduate human resources; promote national and international academic interaction in order to stimulate research related to topics related to INBIAL and disseminate the results of its research to the community as a whole. It is made up of the Departments: Genetics and Bioanthropology; Erythropoiesis, Nutrition and Altitude; Entomology; Regional Ecology and Study of Mountain Human Populations. Two of them, Entomology and Regional Ecology, are responsible for the biological collections: of Entomology "Doctor Lilia Estela Neder" and of Vertebrate, respectively. The specimens preserved in them were, for the most part, collected from the Central Andes region of the Jujuy province. INBIAL's institutional project is to ensure the care, growth and accessibility of its biological collections, in addition to serving as the official site for the deposit of specimens according to the current regulations on access to Biodiversity in the province of Jujuy //El Instituto de Biología de la Altura (INBIAL) dependiente de la Universidad Nacional de Jujuy (UNJu) desde 1983 tiene como misión fomentar investigaciones biológicas que permitan explicar la influencia de los factores que inciden en el desarrollo de la vida en distintos niveles de altitud y dilucidar las complejas interacciones que se establecen en los diferentes ecosistemas incluidos en este gradiente altitudinal; contribuir a la formación de recursos humanos de grado y posgrado; promover la interacción académica nacional e internacional con el fin de estimular investigaciones relacionadas con temáticas afines al INBIAL y difundir los resultados de sus investigaciones a la comunidad en su conjunto. Está integrado por los Departamentos: Genética y Bioantropología; Eritropoyesis, Nutrición y Altura; Entomología; Ecología Regional y Estudio de Poblaciones Humanas de Montaña. Dos de ellos, Entomología y Ecología Regional, tienen bajo su responsabilidad las colecciones biológicas: de Entomología “Doctora Lilia Estela Neder” y de Vertebrados, respectivamente. Los ejemplares conservados en las mismas fueron, en su mayoría, recolectados de la región de los Andes Centrales de la provincia de Jujuy. El INBIAL tiene como proyecto institucional asegurar el cuidado, crecimiento y accesibilidad de sus colecciones biológicas, además de servir como sitio oficial de depósito de ejemplares según la reglamentación vigente de acceso a la Biodiversidad de la provincia de Jujuy.
