The Institute of Ecology and Systematic, for almost 40 years, has accumulated extensive knowledge on the diversity of terrestrial and freshwater organisms with an integral ecosystemic and landscape approach, becoming a reference for studies of natural ecosystems in the region. It has directed multiple national and international projects related to Cuban diversity and that of some Caribbean islands. It has a large number of specialists in fungi, flora and fauna and houses the largest zoological and botanical collections in the Caribbean, available for research and education.

El Instituto de Ecología y Sistemática, por casi 40 años, ha acumulado un amplio conocimiento sobre la diversidad de organismos terrestres y dulceacuícolas con un enfoque ecosistémico y paisajístico integral, constituyéndose en referencia para los estudios de ecosistemas naturales en la región. Ha dirigido múltiples proyectos nacionales e internacionales relacionados con la diversidad cubana y de algunas islas del Caribe. Cuanta con números especialistas de hongos, flora y fauna y alberga las mayores colecciones zoológicas y botánicas del Caribe Insultar, a disposición de la investigación y la educación.
