The University of Maroua is a public university located in the city of Maroua in Cameroon.Each year, this Cameroonian university welcomes students from all regions of Cameroon and neighboring countries: Chad, Central African Republic.Created by Presidential Decree 2008/208 of August 9th, 2008, the University of Maroua is a youngest public university institution in Cameroon.The University of Maroua has 4 faculties and 3 Higher Schools.• Faculty of Economics and Management (FSEG) / Maroua• Faculty of Science (FS) / Maroua• Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences (FSJP) / Maroua• Faculty of Arts and Letters and Social Sciences (FALSH) / Maroua• Higher Teacher Training College• Higher National Polytechnic School of Maroua (ENSPM) • Faculty of Mines and Petroleum Industries (FMIP) Several Departments within Faculties or School deal with the biodiversity issue.- The Department of Biological Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences, with 2 Masters and 2 PhD programs (Biodiversity and Conservation in Animal Biology and Botany and Ecology in Botany);- The Department of Geography at the Faculty of Art, Letters and Social Sciences;- The Department of Environmental Sciences at the Higher National Polytechnic School.Major training programs in those departments exist and are doing serious work concerning Biodiversity.- The collection, identification and preservation of animal species;- The protection of endangered species and their environment;- The ecology and sustainable management of biodiversity in arid zones;- The diversity of plant and their contribution to food security in the Sahelian zones;- Ethnobotany and forest management.All these programs contribute to Social and economic Development by building the capacity of botanists to identify, recognize and assess biodiversity.
