Public descriptionThe Herbarium of The M.S University of Baroda with a current holding of over 36,000specimens is the largest herbarium of Gujarat. It has been indexed in INDEX HERBARORIUM as BARO. All the collections are housed in one hall on the first floor of the Department of Botany of The M.S University of Baroda. The specimens represent the diversity found in four of the biogeographical regions of India which are found in Gujarat. The herbarium house one of the largest collection of plants from the unique Kachchh district which is characterized by a high level of endemism. The herbarium has undertaken an initiative to digitize the entire collection and has managed to get funding from the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited to initiate the activity. Under it the herbarium has been able about 20,000 specimens and most of the images arecorresponding data are now available on the website.
