El Museo de Zoología de la Universidad del Azuay fue creado con el objetivo principal de fomentar la investigación en la Escuela de Biología, Ecología y Gestión y brindar un servicio a la comunidad principalmente por medio del uso de sus colecciones, personal y facilidades en el área de la consultoría. Desde el 2015, sus áreas de investigación, protocolos, colecciones e infraestructura se han modificando, organizándose y posicionándose a nivel nacional, también, durante este tiempo se ha tratado de direccionar los objetivos del museo hacia la investigación, para esto se ha cumplido con estándares internacionales en cuanto a la creación, manejo y uso de colecciones.
