Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan was established by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan No. 32 dated February 4, 2011 (as the successor) on the basis of the merger of the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan. Institute is part of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan. Currently, 57 researchers, 12 doctors of sciences (including 2 academician of NAST, 4 corresponding members of NAST), 22 candidates of sciences working at the institute.

At the moment the Institute has 5 laboratories, 1 department and a herbarium fund. Tajikistan is one of the participation country in the BioDATA project During this project were organized training, 3 to 7 June 2019, Dushanbe Tajikistan Title: Capacity Enhancement Training: Biodiversity Data Mobilization.
