The West-Ukrainian Ornithological Society was founded at 1984. Society unites more than 100 professional ornithologists and highly qualified amateurs from 13 regions of Ukraine, Poland and Romania. Among them are 2 doctors and 29 candidates of sciences. Members of the society have implemented more than 40 projects on the study and protection of birds both at the regional and international levels. The Society has a Public Ornithological Library named after Ihor Horban, which has more than 16,000 items from around the world. The society conducts permanent programs for the accumulation of scientific material - Data Bank of nests and clutches of 223 species of birds from all over Ukraine (over 23.7 thousand records), the Ukrainian Ornithofaunic Commission, which collects and evaluates information on rare species of birds in Ukraine (about 1 .5 thousand records). The Archive of the Society keeps materials about the activities of Society members and materials collected by them about birds. West-Ukrainian Ornithological Society is a living Society whose members work as volunteers and have been studing and protection of birds throughout Ukraine for 38 years. We are open for cooperation with all those willing to study and protect birds.
