The Eco-Club is a wing of the rural degree college Shyampur Siddheswari Mahavidyalaya, affiliated to University of Calcutta. Being situated at floodplains of Rupnarayan, Damodar and Hoogly river the surrounding area harbors a collection of rich but threatened biodiversity. The primary goal of the organization is to provide a platform to the students interested in Wildlife and Environment conservation, Environmental research and to nurture creative ideas among student minds. We officially started our journey from February 2018, since then we have actively participated in several conservation initiatives, biodiversity exploration ventures and different citizen science projects. We have been organizing training workshops for students on biodiversity documentation, assessment and use of citizen science platforms such as iNaturalist, eBird, India Biodiversity Portal etc. Recently we have started documentation of all sorts of flora and fauna from rural areas of Gangetic Plains in Citizen Science platforms to empower our knowledge about backyard wildlife. Other than local wildlife we are currently working in different landscapes from Sunderban Biosphere Reserve, Dooars and Himalayan Foothills of Darjeeling Himalayas, Important Migratory Bird areas across the southern West Bengal etc.
