Public description

The Rocky Mountain Herbarium (RM), which includes the U.S. Forest Service National Herbarium (USFS) and the W.G. Solheim Mycological Herbarium (RMS), collectively contains more than 1.4 million specimens representing the world’s largest assemblage of plants from the greater Rocky Mountain region within the United States. The majority of specimens were collected from the late 1800s to the present, with a particularly active period of growth between 1978 and 2012 when the collections increased by over 700,000 specimens as a result of intensive floristic inventories of the Rocky Mountain region. About 970,000 specimens are digitized, most with images.
