The University of Namibia (UNAM) is committed to advancing biodiversity research

and conservation through a multidisciplinary approach.

UNAM actively pursues studies in biodiversity, ecological research, and

environmental management, contributing valuable data on species distribution,

ecosystem health, and conservation priorities among others. As a result, we focus on

research across various fields, including zoology, botany, conservation genetics,

biomonitoring and environmental sciences.

Namibia as a member of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), is

thus expected to support biodiversity data accessibility through collaborations with

national and international networks.  UNAM, being a research-driven institution,

aids this cause through the publication of biodiversity data collected by its

researchers, in biodiversity data-sharing initiatives.

In doing so, the University is contributing towards Namibia meeting its multilateral

agreement obligations such as Target 21 of the Kunming-Montreal Global

Biodiversity Framework, United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity.
