Public description

The Croatian Veterinary Institute (CVI) is a national scientific and diagnostic institution operating under the Ministry of Agriculture. It plays a central role in ensuring animal health and food safety in Croatia through its two core areas of activity: veterinary public health and laboratory and field diagnostics of animal diseases.

The Institute performs a broad range of activities, including:

• Laboratory diagnostics of infectious, zoonotic, and parasitic diseases in domestic and wild animals;

• Surveillance and monitoring of animal populations, zoonoses, and foodborne pathogens;

• Scientific research in veterinary medicine, epidemiology, microbiology, parasitology, and related disciplines;

• Participation in national and international scientific and applied research projects.

CVI also carries out research and monitoring of vectors and vector-borne diseases, including ticks, mosquitoes, and other arthropods of veterinary and public health relevance. The Institute collaborates closely with universities, public health institutions, and veterinary authorities, and it contributes to disease prevention and control strategies at the national and regional levels.
