Public descriptionThe Insect Museum at the School of Agronomy of the UCR was established in 1962. It arose from a collection of insects from research in natural history and entomology in the fight against agricultural pests, carried out by Alexander Bierig (1884-1963 ), entomologist and artist. The collection has been enriched by collections made by other scientists and students.
Currently, the exhibits of the Insect Museum provide detailed information on the most interesting and common insects in Costa Rica, so the visitor will be able to learn about the importance and benefits of insects for agriculture, health, and biodiversity.
The Museum has scientific collections with more t250.000 specimens, in which all orders are represented.
